Redding .364 Titanium Nitride Bushing for Reloading and Precision Shooting

RED76364

Choosing the correct bushing for your Redding dies is a critical step in achieving precise and consistent metallic and semi-metallic cartridge reloading. The most straightforward method to determine the appropriate size involves measuring the external neck diameter of your previously loaded cartridges using a high-precision micrometer or caliper. Once you have the average smallest neck diameter, simply subtract 0.001 inches from this measurement. In the majority of cases, this calculated dimension will correspond to the ideal bushing size, ensuring an optimal neck tension fit between the case neck and the bullet.

When utilizing a Redding “S” type die and refraining from neck turning on your brass cases, it is advisable to select a bushing that is 0.002 inches smaller than the smallest average neck diameter. In this scenario, employing the included expander ball with the “S” die is highly recommended. This combination allows for minimal neck expansion during bullet seating, which significantly extends the lifespan of your brass. Additionally, the expander ball ensures uniform bullet retention across all cartridges, promoting consistent ballistic performance and accuracy.

Redding’s extensive testing has demonstrated that cases with thinner neck walls—still within SAAMI tolerances—can experience substantial neck expansion after firing, ranging from 0.006 to 0.010 inches beyond the diameter of a loaded cartridge neck. Under these conditions, selecting a bushing that is 0.001 inches larger than the loaded cartridge neck diameter can provide the ideal bullet tension. This adjustment compensates for the increased expansion, maintaining reliable bullet grip and consistent chamber pressures during subsequent reloads.

In summary, precise measurement and careful selection of the bushing size tailored to your specific brass characteristics and die type are paramount for optimizing neck tension, enhancing bullet retention, and maximizing the longevity of your brass cases. Adhering to these technical guidelines ensures superior reload quality, improved accuracy, and consistent ballistic performance in your metallic and semi-metallic cartridge reloading processes.
